Collect spatial feedback directly on a map by allowing participants to share insights and ideas through dropping pins on a map.
Note: You need to create your project map in the Map library before you can create a map survey. Once your project map is created, you can select this project map as your basemap when creating your map survey.

Create a new map survey
To create and add a map survey to your project:
While logged in, use the top-level menu to navigate to the Projects tab.
Select the relevant project; this opens your project overview page.
In the left-hand menu, under the Participation section, click Map surveys. This shows all the existing map surveys for this project.
Click +Add map survey to create a new map survey.
Give the survey a Title. This will be visible on the public-facing page.
Add a brief Description that describes the purpose of the map survey.
From the dropdown menu, select which Base map to choose. If no maps are available in this list, add them to your map library first. Click here for more information about the map library.
Add one or more Categories of pins for your participants to use. In the dropdown, you will have the choice of a set of default icons (Default, Improvement, Idea, Like, and Hazard), simple coloured pin icons, or custom icons.
Custom icons are only available if they have been uploaded to your basemap as Markers Icons. See below for more information on custom survey markers.
Give your pin a helpful Name, for example, “pedestrian hazard for a Hazard pin. The pin name and corresponding icon will appear in the map legend.
Click +Add category to add a new pin-type; repeat as required.
You can add multiple inputs to the survey if required. Click here for more information about survey input types.
On the right-hand side, tick Require account if you want to prevent anonymous submissions.
Add an End date for submissions if required.
Advanced settings give you the option to add a customised message after participants have submitted their answers.
Once you’re finished editing, click Save as draft.

Edit a map survey
To edit an existing map survey:
While logged in, use the top-level menu to navigate to the Projects tab.
Select the relevant project; this opens your project overview page.
In the left-hand menu, under the Participation section, click Map surveys. This shows all the map surveys for this project you currently have access to.
Click on the ellipsis icon for the survey you want to edit and select Edit to be taken to the edit screen.
Alternatively, click on the survey you want to edit to be taken to the Overview screen, then click the Edit tab.
Once you’ve finished editing, click Save as draft.

Delete a map survey
You can delete a map survey from a project if it is no longer needed, or was created by mistake. This permanently removes the map survey and all its content and cannot be undone. Proceed with caution!
Note: You may not have delete permissions as part of your role. If you have any questions about your permissions, contact your District Engage administrator.
To delete a map survey:
Navigate to an existing project.
In the left-hand menu, under Participation, click Map surveys. This shows all the map surveys that already exist for this project.
Click on the ellipsis button to show more options for a map survey. Click Delete.
Alternatively, click on the map survey you want to edit, then click the Delete tab.
You’ll be prompted with a warning to confirm the action. Click Yes, Delete this Map survey.
Your map survey is now deleted.

Note: Map Surveys have a limit of 5000 pins that can be displayed at one time on the map. All submissions will be captured, but only the first 5000 will be displayed.
If you feel that your Map Survey may exceed this many submissions, please contact the Engage Victoria support team.
Upload custom survey markers
When creating or editing a project map in the map library, you can upload custom survey markers that can be used in survey maps that use this project map as a basemap.
To upload custom survey markers to an existing map:
While logged in, use the top-level menu to navigate to the Projects tab.
Select the relevant project; this opens your project overview page.
In the left-hand menu, under Content, click Map library. This shows all the maps available for this project.
Click on the map you would like to add custom survey markers to.
Click Edit.
Upload your desired custom survey markers to the Markers Icons section.
Click Save as draft to save your map and the survey markers. The uploaded survey markers will now become available as an icon option for pin categories when creating a map survey.
