Participation tool types
Participation tools can be added to your projects to get participants to engage and collaborate. To find an overview of the participation tools available via District Engage:
While logged in, use the top-level menu to navigate to the Projects tab.
Select the relevant project; this opens your project overview page.
In the left-hand menu, under Participation, you see an overview of the participation tools available via District Engage.
Here is an overview of participation tools available:
| Tool name | Purpose |
| Surveys | Generate simple or complex survey forms to gather qualitative and quantitative data quickly and easily |
| Polls | Conduct a poll to allow respondents to vote on an issue or idea |
| Map surveys | Allow respondents to provide geographically targeted feedback by interacting with maps, including dropping pins |
| Questions | Give your community an opportunity to ask the project team direct questions |
| Ideas | Give your community an opportunity to share ideas on an ideas wall - both internal and public responses can be shared and discussed |
| Discussions | Create a discussion board to encourage conversations |
Adding a participation tool to your project

Change the order of participation tools on your published project
You can change the order of your participation tools in the edit tab of your project.
To change the order of your displayed consultation tools:
While logged in, use the top-level menu to navigate to the Projects tab.
Select the relevant project; this opens your project overview page.
Click on the Edit tab.
Scroll to where the Participate list block. Hover over the left side of a tool until the hand icon appears, then click and hold to drag and drop the tools into your chosen order.
Once you’ve finished re-ordering the tools, click Save at the top of your project to save and publish your changes.
Unpublish a participation tool
You can unpublish individual participation tools from a project without affecting the other content. The tool will be automatically removed from anywhere it is currently displayed or linked to.
To unpublish a participation tool:
Navigate to an existing project.
In the left-hand menu, under Participation, click which participation tool type you’d like to unpublish. This shows all the participation tools of a specific type that already exist for this project.
Click on the item you want to unpublish.
At the top right of the screen, next to the Save button, are your publish options. Choose Unpublished from the dropdown menu.
Click Save.
Delete a participation tool
You can delete a participation tool from a project if it is no longer needed, or was created by mistake. This permanently removes the tool and all its content and cannot be undone. Proceed with caution!
Note: you may not have delete permissions as part of your role. If you have any questions about your permissions, contact your District Engage administrator.
To delete a participation tool:
Navigate to an existing project.
In the left-hand menu, under Participation, click which participation tool type you’d like to delete. This shows all the participation tools of a specific type that already exist for this project.
Click on the ellipsis button to show more options for a page. Click Delete.
Alternatively, click on the page you want to edit, then click the Delete tab.
You’ll be prompted with a warning to confirm the action. Click Yes, Delete this Page.
Your page is now deleted.
