How to use content blocks
Content blocks allow you to create unique content types for your project, and display them in ways that make sense to you and your participants.
There are two types of content blocks:
Content blocks that have unique pages created for the project, for example, events or timelines,
Content blocks that just add information to an existing page, for example, documents or a location map.
Most content blocks are created through the left-hand menu, while some are directly created by adding blocks to specific project pages.

The following content blocks can only be created directly on the project page by adding new content blocks: Html block, Project location, Image gallery, Participate embed, Participate list.
Creating a content block does not always automatically display the content on your main project page. When creating a new project, the following set of content blocks will be added to the main project page by default: Participate list, Events, Updates, Documents, Pages. For example, when a page is created through the left-hand menu, a card for this page will automatically be displayed on the main project page.
By clicking Add block when on the Edit tab of a project page, you can further customise the content of this page.

Content block types
Here is a list of all content block types available in District Engage. All these content block types can be added to the main project page or other project pages, either through cards representing the content block or directly displaying the content block:
| Content block name | Purpose | Unique page or content block only? |
| Pages | Create pages in addition to the main project page to split up information on larger projects | Pages are added under Content > Pages. A unique page is created. A card for that page is automatically added to the main project page. |
| Timeline | Inform users about the different stages of the project | A timeline is added under Content > Timeline. A unique page is created to display the timeline, which is automatically referenced through a sub menu tab for this project. The whole project timeline is displayed by default on the main project page. |
| Updates | Provide updates associated with the project to notify users of the latest project news | Updates are added under Content > Updates. A unique page is created to display the update, as well as a sub menu tab is automatically created for all project updates. Cards for the last two updates are automatically displayed on the main project page. |
| Profiles | Provide profiles for key people in this project | Profiles are added under Content > Profiles. |
| Events | Information on events and meetings related to this project | Events are added under Content > Events. A unique page is created to display the update, as well as a sub menu tab is automatically created for all project events. Cards for the last two events are automatically added to the main project page. |
| Map library | Show a geographical, interactive map of the project’s location | Maps are added in the Map library. Creating a map does not generate a unique page, maps can only be added to an existing page. |
| Documents | Share one or more documents on a project page, to provide further information that cannot be easily added to the website otherwise File (Document) formats must be: doc, docx, pdf, txt, xls, xlsx, csv | Documents are added under Content > Documents. Creating a document item does not generate a unique page, a document can only be added to an existing page. Documents are displayed by default on the main project page. |
| Project location | Add a location name and map for the project | A project location is added on a project page by clicking Add new block on the edit tab of that page. A project location does not create a unique page. |
| Participate list | List one or more participation tool cards associated with the project | Participation tools are added to a project through Participation in the left-hand menu. A unique page is created to display the participation tools, as well as a sub menu tab is automatically created for all participation tools. The main project page automatically displays cards for the two latest participation tools. |
| Participate embed | Instead of displaying a card for a specific participation tool, this content type allows you to display the actual participation tool on the project page. E.g. answer the poll directly on the project page instead of having to go to the individual poll page. | A participation tool must be created prior to adding a participate embed. A participate embed is added to a project page by clicking Add new block on the edit tab of that page. |
| Image gallery | Render multiple images in a gallery | An Image gallery is added to a project page through clicking Add new block on the edit tab of that page. No individual page is generated for this content type. |
| Html block | Add Html content to your project page | An Html block is added to a project page through clicking Add new block on the edit tab of that page. No individual page is generated for this content type. |
