Hotspots

The Hotspot tool lets you add interactive annotations to images, maps and diagrams. When clicked, the animated spots on the hotspot image open to reveal detailed information and additional images. Hotspots enhance user engagement by providing a visually appealing and interactive way to access content.

Create a new hotspot

To create a hotspot for your project:

1. Using the top-level menu, navigate to the Projects tab.

2. Select the relevant project; this opens your project overview page.

3. In the left-hand menu, under Content, click Hotspots. This shows all the hotspots created for this project.

4. To create a new project hotspot, click +Add hotspot.

5. Add a Title.

6. Upload the base image. Your animated spots will be placed on this image.

7. Click Add hotspot.

8. Click on the image at the place where you want to put your animated spot.

9. Add a Title for the selected animated spot.

10. Add an optional Image that will be displayed when the animated spot is clicked.

11. Add a Description. This text will be shown when users click on the animated spot.

12. Customise the Color and Size of your animated spot.

13. Once you’ve finished, click Add hotspot. You can repeat this process multiple times to create additional animated spots on the same image.

14. Once you've finished editing, click Save as draft.

Edit a hotspot

To edit an existing hotspot:

1. Navigate to an existing project.

2. In the left-hand menu, under Content, click Hotspots. This shows all the hotspots that already exist for this project.

3. Click on the ellipsis button to show more options for an hotspot. Click Edit.

4. Alternatively, click on the hotspot you want to edit, then click the Edit tab.

5. Once you’ve finished editing, click Save as draft.

Edit an animated spot

To edit an animated spot within a selected hotspot:

1. Navigate to an existing project.

2. In the left-hand menu, under Content, click Hotspots. This shows all the hotspots that already exist for this project.

3. Click on the ellipsis button to show more options for an hotspot. Click Edit.

4. Alternatively, click on the hotspot you want to edit, then click the Edit tab.

5. On the right-hand side of the screen, you'll find the list of created animated spots for the selected hotspot. To edit an animated spot, select it from the list.

   1. This will open the animated spot editing window, where you can modify title, image, description, colour and spot size.

   2. To reposition an animated spot, click on the background image at the desired new location.

6. Click Done to save your edits.

7. Once you’ve finished editing, click Save as draft.

Unpublish a hotspot

You can unpublish individual hotspots from a project without affecting other content. The hotspot will be automatically removed from anywhere it is currently displayed or linked to.

To unpublish an hotspot:

1. Navigate to an existing project.

2. In the left-hand menu, under Content, click Hotspots. This shows all the hotspots that already exist for this project.

3. Click on the hotspot you want to unpublish.

4. At the top right of the screen, next to the Save button, are your publish options. Choose Unpublished from the dropdown menu.

5. Click Save.

Delete a hotspot

You can delete a hotspot from a project if it is no longer needed, or was created by mistake. This permanently removes the hotspot and all its content and cannot be undone. Proceed with caution!

Note: You may not have delete permissions as part of your role. If you have any questions about your permissions, contact your District Engage administrator.

To delete an hotspot:

1. Navigate to an existing project.

2. In the left-hand menu, under Content, click Hotspots. This shows all the hotspots that already exist for this project.

3. Click on the ellipsis button to show more options for an hotspot. Click Delete.

4. Alternatively, click on the hotspot you want to delete, then click the Delete tab.

5. You’ll be prompted with a warning to confirm the action. Click Yes, Delete this Hotspot.

6. Your hotspot is now deleted.
